With a promise of US withdrawal in 2011 Iraq is now preparing to reopen contracts with several countries in lucrative oil, electricity, and military industries. Some old pacts that existed with Russia and China before the 2003 invasion are being rerecognized today. In some ways it is encouraging to see Iraq proctoring businees deals that are multinational in scope, but at the same time, one must be wary of old, pre-2003 contracts being rejuvenated and hope that Iraq plans to diversify and explore new business ventures and alliances.
