The cast of True Blood and writer Alan Ball showed up at the Cineramadome tonight for Paley Fest 2009. A 15-minute clip included a sneak peek into the second season that introduces even more creatures into the TV adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novels.
The most impressive aspect of the entire gathering was the intense showing of fandom it seems any vampiric media is destined to attract. The crowd went wild over a small tribute clip from Dark Shadows and the presence of Alex Skarsgard, who plays Eric in the series.
The pressure is on for Alan Ball to keep pleasing his fans in the new second season. Viewers expect a lot, including new twists and even more outrageous behaviors from the new characters. There are mixed reviews over the relative quality of the show v. the novels, but tonight's audience seemed impressed by Ball's efforts. Ball's message: If you want to see the show continue without cancellation or increased outside pressure from HBO programmers, buy the DVD. HA.
It seems there's a consensus that one of the season's best scenes was Lafayette's AIDS burger outburst. More news here.
